The Producers (Widescreen Edition)
The Producers (Widescreen Edition) The trend is to convert movies into stage musicals, but The Producers goes a step further: making a feature film of the smash-hit stage musical that was adapted from the 1968 film. The chief drawing card, of course, is Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick reprising their roles from the stage. Lane plays Max Bialystock, a legendary Broadway producer who hasn't had a hit show in a long time. Enter nebbish accountant Leo Bloom (Broderick), who tells Bialystock he could actually make more money with a flop than a hit. So the two set out to produce the worst Broadway musical of all time, one guaranteed to close on opening night, with the collaboration of an outrageous cast of characters: Will Ferrell as sieg heil-ing author Franz Liebkind, Uma Thurman as Swedish bombshell Ulla, Gary Beach as director Roger De Bris, and Roger Bart as his assistant, Carmen Ghia, among others.

As directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman (who did the same honors on Broadway) and co-written by Mel Brooks, The Producers is laugh-out-loud funny. It's also a relentlessly over-the-top, shamelessly bawdy, stereotype-ridden comedy that may turn off its audience just as much as its centerpiece, Springtime for Hitler, was intended to. But Broadway fans who are used to larger-than-life figures who play to the back row while showering the first row with spit, are likely to forgive and just enjoy the famous granny-walker dance, a supporting cast dotted with Broadway performers (playing a taxi driver is Brad Oscar, who originated the role of Liebkind on Broadway then later played Bialystock), or the mere spectacle of seeing Lane and Broderick memorializing the performances that millions never got a ticket to see. (For maximum laughs, stick around through the closing credits.) --David Horiuchi

My Best Friend's Wedding (Special Edition)
My Best Friend's Wedding (Special Edition) One of the best romantic comedies of the 1990s, My Best Friend's Wedding not only gave Julia Roberts a delightful vehicle for her crowd-pleasing comeback, but it further distinguished itself by avoiding the conventional plotting of the genre. Julia plays a prominent Chicago restaurant critic whose best friend (Dermot Mulroney) is a former lover from her college days with whom she'd made a binding pact: if neither of them were married by the age of 28, they'd marry each other. Just when they're about to reach the deadline of their agreement, Mulroney arrives in Chicago to introduce Roberts to his seemingly perfect fiancée (Cameron Diaz) and announce their wedding in just three days. That leaves the shocked Julia with just three short days to sabotage the wedding and marry the man she now realizes she's loved all along. With potential heartbreak waiting in the wings, she'll either get what she wants or pay the price for her selfish behavior, and Ronald Bass's cleverly constructed screenplay keeps us guessing to the very end. Rupert Everett scored rave reviews for his scene-stealing performance as Robert's gay friend who goes along with her scheming (but only so far), and even as she makes her character's needy desperation disarmingly appealing, Roberts wisely allows Diaz to capitalize on her charming time in the spotlight. As the romantic outcome remains uncertain, the viewer is held in a state of giddy suspense, and director P.J. Hogan pulls off some hilarious scenes (like a restaurant full of people singing the Dionne Warwick hit "I Say a Little Prayer") that could easily have fallen flat in the hands of a less talented filmmaker. It's no surprise that this was one of the box-office smashes of 1997. --Jeff Shannon

Resolved Question: Does this sound alright to you?
Ok so this is my 3 y/o golden retriever's daily exercise and I just wanted to know what you thought about this current scheme. 06:00 - Cooper and I go out for a 2.5 mile run (not really strenuous for either of us) 06:20 - We get to a park and have a rest where he has water and goes to the toilet 06:40 - We do the run home which is the same distance in the same time too 07:00 - Cooper gets more water and he gets his can of dog food for breakfast So that is his exercise in the morning and then my husband takes him out in the evening from 6pm to 7pm where they walk to the park (a closer one), play fetch and then come home again where he gets his couple cups of dry food. He gets lots of attention during the day and is played with. Does it sound like he is being fed and exercised enough? He loves the exercise and I would reduce it if he couldn't cope. He gets enough water too when running. I just want to do the best by my boy. Sorry the suggested categories: Education & Reference > Words & Wordplay Society & Culture > Languages Cars & Transportation > Car Audio & Electronics Entertainment & Music > Polls & Surveys Society & Culture > Etiquette Oh I didn't make it clear sorry. The 7am thing is after and he does eat quite a bit after he eats (around 7:45) but changing it to 8am would be fine. And he does go to the toilet when he wants during the rest of the day. Thanks for all of the answers so far. Oh and I forgot to add that he eats a lot later after he gets back from his evening walk. It's 8 getting on 9 when he eats. (more...)

Resolved Question: Graduate employers all seem to want high UCAS points - do I need to go back and take some more A-levels?
Hi all I'm soon to be a language graduate and I'm looking for some challenging and rewarding graduate jobs/training schemes. I look set to get either a 2:1 or a 1st when I graduate (I'm borderline at the moment - fingers crossed for the latter!). Unfortunately, despite being a hard worker, team player, organised and all the other things employers seem to be looking for, my A-level results were rather disappointing for a number of reasons. I'm not into making excuses for my results, I've learned from my weaknesses, secured a place at a university and worked my socks off to make sure I get the top marks I missed out on during my A-levels. My problem is, most graduate employers seem to demand 300+ UCAS points, BBB/BBC grades which I just haven't got. I was happy to close the door on my A-level results when I left 6th form and made it into uni, but they're just coming back to haunt me! Do I really need to go back to college and take some more A-levels (now I'm more mature and ready to study) before looking for graduate jobs? Thanks in advance for your advice. (more...)

Resolved Question: I want to learn a functional programming language. Where do I start?
I am an experienced C# developer. I've also had java experience in the past, and I am a python hobbyist. I hear that functional programming is going to get more popular in the near future, and I'd like to get a leg up. Also, learning a new paradigm sounds fun. I understand you can do functional programming in python; but I thought it would be more fun to learn some new syntax and force my mind to shift to a different gear. I'm thinking lisp, scheme, or F#. I have and or can get any tool I need. Which language (specific interpreter, software package, or toolset) should I choose and what free online tutorial should I start with? My main machine is Vista; but I also have an ubuntu box. (more...)

Lakh and lakhs of money my mother got after her retirement, they have two big houses in their name, two MIS of 3 lacs each, both the brothers have their FD in bank which was given to them by my mother. I do not have any FD, no pension scheme, they do not let me work and give me threatening calls in the office, they bribe police, they have given me my share of money. Time and again they threw my things outside, if you do not want to live with your brothers go and live in PG. I have been managing on my own for last 5 months. I want my share to be given to me and God should punish these three people so that no other daughter suffers the life I have lived. How can I get my share. These people threaten to kill me all the time, one night, they threaten to burn me alive, and I was so scared and struck in the house with these three demons, they have been threating to kill me eversince then. My brother even threw so much of black ashe with hair in it on my face the entire night. I am so scared of these demons, I really wish someone could help me get out of the cluthes of these demons.
