Open Question: What is your primary desire in life? To be Happy or Holy?
14 Let your desire be for peace with all men, and to be made holy, without which no man may see the Lord; Hebrews 12:14 15 But be holy in every detail of your lives, as he, whose servants you are, is holy 1 Peter 1:15 "If "happiness" were achievable in the wealthiest nation on earth, why then are we plagued by boredom, crime, drugs, the murder of the unborn, teenage pregnancy, and divorce? It is my suspicion that Satan has been less than truthful to us in holding out the carrot of "happiness." What do you think?" R. Resolved Question: Marijuana and addiction? Harmless or not?
I know someone who is 34 years old. He recently ended a longterm relationship with a dear friend who has a 2 year old son by him. The two were together for nearly a decade. She quit smoking marijuana when she got pregnant, went back to college and was trying to encourage him to quit as well since she thought it would benefit the family. He refused, said he was tired of her not accepting him for who he is and ended their relationship. One of his primary reasons was he "didn't want to change his lifestyle". He is 34 years old, never did get his diploma because he says he was failed because of absences, but never went back to get his GED. He sells cars and even thought he car business is going down hill he doesn't go to get his GED. He only looks for work that doesn't require drug-testing because he doesn't want to stop smoking pot. He grows his own (illegal) which was an issue after my friends baby arrived. He smokes every evening for the most part and considers that to be "recreational". He's had addiction issues in the past. Gambling, briefly, until he lost all of his money once and was able to quit on his own. Then he did Meth for a while "recreationally" until his ex said that she wouldn't date him if he continued. So he stopped that on his own. I wonder if pot is an issue. He says it's not a big deal, but while most people have moved past it he's not. He holds down a job and is very social and outgoing. I just wonder if he has a problem or if pot doesn't affect one that much?? (more...)

Resolved Question: Accounting, can some one help?
Accounting, can some one help? BTN 17-1 Refer to Krispy Kreme?s financial statements in Appendix A to answer the following: 1. Larson?Wild?Chiappetta: Fundamental Accounting Principles, Seventeenth Edition Back Matter Appendix A: Financial Statement Information © The McGraw?Hill Companies, 2004 A A-1 Appendix Financial Statement Information This appendix includes financial information for (1) Krispy Kreme, (2) Tastykake, and (3) Harley-Davidson. This information is taken from their annual reports. An annual report is a summary of a company?s financial results for the year along with its current financial condition and future plans. This report is directed to external users of financial information, but it also affects the actions and decisions of internal users. A company uses an annual report to showcase itself and its products. Many annual reports include attractive photos, diagrams, and illustrations related to the company. The primary objective of annual reports, however, is the financial section, which communicates much information about a company, with most data drawn from the accounting information system. The layout of an annual report?s financial section is fairly established and typically includes the following: Letter to Shareholders Financial History and Highlights Management Discussion and Analysis Management?s Report Report of Independent Accountants (Auditor?s Report) Financial Statements Notes to Financial Statements List of Directors and Officers This appendix provides the financial statements for Krispy Kreme (plus selected notes), Tastykake, and Harley-Davidson. The appendix is organized as follows: Krispy Kreme A-2 through A-17 Tastykake A-18 through A-24 Harley-Davidson A-25 through A-30 Many assignments at the end of each chapter refer to information in this appendix. We encourage readers to spend time with these assignments; they are especially useful in showing the relevance and diversity of financial accounting and reporting. Special note: The SEC maintains the EDGAR (Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval) database at www.SEC.gov. The Form 10-K is the annual report form for most companies. It provides electronically accessible information. The Form 10-KSB is the annual report form filed by ?small businesses.? It requires slightly less information than the Form 10-K. One of these forms must be filed within 90 days after the company?s fiscal year-end. (Forms 10-K405, 10-KT, 10-KT405, and 10-KSB405 are slight variations of the usual form due to certain regulations or rules.) Resolved Question: can you translate this short story edgar allen poe?
MISERY is manifold. The wretchedness of earth is multiform. Overreaching the wide horizon as the rainbow, its hues are as various as the hues of that arch, --as distinct too, yet as intimately blended. Overreaching the wide horizon as the rainbow! How is it that from beauty I have derived a type of unloveliness? --from the covenant of peace a simile of sorrow? But as, in ethics, evil is a consequence of good, so, in fact, out of joy is sorrow born. Either the memory of past bliss is the anguish of to-day, or the agonies which are have their origin in the ecstasies which might have been. My baptismal name is Egaeus; that of my family I will not mention. Yet there are no towers in the land more time-honored than my gloomy, gray, hereditary halls. Our line has been called a race of visionaries; and in many striking particulars --in the character of the family mansion --in the frescos of the chief saloon --in the tapestries of the dormitories --in the chiselling of some buttresses in the armory --but more especially in the gallery of antique paintings --in the fashion of the library chamber --and, lastly, in the very peculiar nature of the library's contents, there is more than sufficient evidence to warrant the belief. The recollections of my earliest years are connected with that chamber, and with its volumes --of which latter I will say no more. Here died my mother. Herein was I born. But it is mere idleness to say that I had not lived before --that the soul has no previous existence. You deny it? --let us not argue the matter. Convinced myself, I seek not to convince. There is, however, a remembrance of aerial forms --of spiritual and meaning eyes --of sounds, musical yet sad --a remembrance which will not be excluded; a memory like a shadow, vague, variable, indefinite, unsteady; and like a shadow, too, in the impossibility of my getting rid of it while the sunlight of my reason shall exist. In that chamber was I born. Thus awaking from the long night of what seemed, but was not, nonentity, at once into the very regions of fairy-land --into a palace of imagination --into the wild dominions of monastic thought and erudition --it is not singular that I gazed around me with a startled and ardent eye --that I loitered away my boyhood in books, and dissipated my youth in reverie; but it is singular that as years rolled away, and the noon of manhood found me still in the mansion of my fathers --it is wonderful what stagnation there fell upon the springs of my life --wonderful how total an inversion took place in the character of my commonest thought. The realities of the world affected me as visions, and as visions only, while the wild ideas of the land of dreams became, in turn, --not the material of my every-day existence-but in very deed that existence utterly and solely in itself. Berenice and I were cousins, and we grew up together in my paternal halls. Yet differently we grew --I ill of health, and buried in gloom --she agile, graceful, and overflowing with energy; hers the ramble on the hill-side --mine the studies of the cloister --I living within my own heart, and addicted body and soul to the most intense and painful meditation --she roaming carelessly through life with no thought of the shadows in her path, or the silent flight of the raven-winged hours. Berenice! --I call upon her name --Berenice! --and from the gray ruins of memory a thousand tumultuous recollections are startled at the sound! Ah! vividly is her image before me now, as in the early days of her light-heartedness and joy! Oh! gorgeous yet fantastic beauty! Oh! sylph amid the shrubberies of Arnheim! --Oh! Naiad among its fountains! --and then --then all is mystery and terror, and a tale which should not be told. Disease --a fatal disease --fell like the simoom upon her frame, and, even while I gazed upon her, the spirit of change swept, over her, pervading her mind, her habits, and her character, and, in a manner the most subtle and terrible, disturbing even the identity of her person! Alas! the destroyer came and went, and the victim --where was she, I knew her not --or knew her no longer as Berenice. Among the numerous train of maladies superinduced by that fatal and primary one which effected a revolution of so horrible a kind in the moral and physical being of my cousin, may be mentioned as the most distressing and obstinate in its nature, a species of epilepsy not unfrequently terminating in trance itself --trance very nearly resembling positive dissolution, and from which her manner of recovery was in most instances, startlingly abrupt. In the mean time my own disease --for I have been told that I should call it by no other appelation --my own disease, then, grew rapidly upon me, and assumed finally a monomaniac character of a novel and extraordinary form --hourly and momently gaining vigor --and at length obtaining over me the most incomprehensible ascendancy. This monomania, if I must so term it, consisted in a m what does this story mean in english (more...)

Resolved Question: I need others' opinions about personality clash/opposing values with my husband?
My husband and I grew up in very different households. He was very poor and in the projects. His mom was the primary caretaker and made all of the money and decisions. She bought many items for him and his sibling from yard sales, second-hand, or just the cheapest thing in the store. Their attitude was use the item and show it zero care; whatever happens to it, just buy another cheap one. I grew up in a middle class home. My dad worked and mom stayed home. We were not spoiled, but my parents could afford to buy things that were of a decent quality for me and my sibling. We researched our purchases and bought the best quality we could for the best value. We were taught to take care of our property; if something broke, was lost or ruined out of neglect, we had to go without it. I guess anyone can see where this is going. Flash forward to our marriage. We both went to school and make okay money. Now we own a home and are buying things to fix and fill it. My husband wants to buy cheap things, and later replace them with better. I want to save up, wait until we can buy decent quality and then purchase. Why waste $250 on a cheapo sofa, that we will replace in a year or two? I would rather go without or get used items and save to replace them once. Because of this, I have purchased many of the items in our home, including our furniture and his clothing. (He REFUSES to spend money on clothes. He ripped the butt out on his dress pants and safety pinned them to go to a funeral and couldn't see why he needed to buy new pants. They were fine with the pins in them.) Then, when we do buy quality items, my husband treats them with no respect. He never takes care of anything. He is rough and careless with things, often losing, damaging or breaking them; he then just says , "We can buy another" or "Don't worry about it. It is no big deal." This is driving me crazy. He wore brand new tennis shoes to paint and caulk around the house. (He wears a size 15-these are expensive and hard to find.) He wrecked our brand new car into a fire-hydrant, because he "forgot" to pull the emergency break and left the car running, on a hill, IN GEAR, to run into the house for something he forgot. We CANNOT buy another $1,000 sofa on a whim, because he jumps onto it (He is 6'5 and over 300lbs), or sits in it with his keys in his pocket and scratches or rips the leather. We CANNOT buy another $700 dollar home office desk on a whim, because he puts glasses directly on the wood. The worst part, is that some of the items I am still paying on when he misuses them. And he has absolutely no remorse, nor does he change his ways at all. I am beside myself with this. I work hard to buy decent things. I do not waste money or spend frivolously. Why can't he respect what we have? Why doesn't he want our home to look nice or be comfortable. Why can't he understand that we could have a very nice life if he would just put things back where they belong, think a minute about the best way to do something or use care when he does do something. We could save so much money and make our lives easier. He is a hard-working, decent guy who would never cheat on me. He is kind and loving. He compliments me every day-sincerely. I know I should be very grateful for this fantastic guy in my life, but his carelessness and disrespect is really causing issues. Does anyone have any advice or an opinion of how I could make him understand what our problem is? Or maybe something sage that would help me to understand why he refuses to take care of things? I know how he was brought up, and his parents are STILL the same way. His mom is a hot mess and they "yard sale" ever weekend, buying LOADS of junk that they horde. (They even have their 2 story-double stall GARAGE "decorated" and have 9 full size curio cabinets in the 1st floor of their house CRAMMED with stuff. Please do not think I am a judgemental witch; I once had to use their $1.50 ironing board that was as high as my thighs, while ironing with a 50 cent iron that had never been cleaned and had deposits all over the surface. It took me 45 minutes to iron a shirt.) Help, please. We dated for 5 years before marriage, but did not live together. I knew he was slobby, but he promised to try to be neater. I had no idea what he was really like until after we married. (more...)
