Resolved Question: Are you satisfied with the judges on reality shows shown on TV channels?
Freedom given to improper person invites problem just like if mad men dumped in Ranchi Mental hospitals are freed and left unbridled. Freedom given to terrorists and criminals are creating problems for not only for India but for the entire world.
In our country where 90% of voters are illiterate, uneducated and too much innocent to understand the intricacy of politicians it is foolishness to seek their votes under the banner of democracy to select and elect between good and the bad.
Similarly we have seen on Realty shows where good singers are thrown out by voters only because those who do not understand the ins and outs of music are sending SMS's to choose best singers. Judges in such realty shows sheds crocodile tears when good singers are rejected by votes.
In the same way politicians in democratic set up prevailing in our country shed crocodile tears when they listen pathetic position of their constituency or when voters raises demand for the development of the area and earn sympathy votes or anti -incumbency votes.
Obviously we have made mockery of votes and in turn that of democracy in the name of freedom. As such I am of the view that there must be controlled democracy and the regulated freedom should be given to only those educated persons who have adequate skills and know to elect the leaders suitably.
We should learn lesson by what is happening in all the realty shows running on TV channels and we should learn by the results of hundreds of elections taken place in our country during last 60 years in several state assemblies and the Parliament where money play the bigger role and not at all the merit of the candidate.
In brief, we can say that as long as merit is not given its due respect and honour, one cannot hope and even imagine for good results in democratic system of governance. It is worthwhile to mention here that there are still some schools, colleges, societies and Corporates (business enterprises) who have been working under democratic set up and who strictly adhere to discipline in their campuses and who have been consistently rising by leaps and bounds. DAV schools, IIM;s, IITs, Navratna Corporates are a few illustrations to substantiate this line of thinking.
Democracy in Indian context has to be redefined to make it more effective ad fruitful.

Resolved Question: In the UK should we have fixed date elections?
In the UK the government decided when to call an election as long as it is within 5 years, Lately we have seen the Labour government bring in a series of tax cuts with the conservatives claiming they will hold an election while the feel good factor is present, the tories themselves did the same thing in the wake of the Falklands war.
When Parliament set up the Scottish government they where very clear that whichever party was in power in Scotland they could not call an early election but the full term must run.
that makes sense to me as it why should any government be able to call an election when it suits them.
If a government is elected for 5 years should they not be forced to serve out the full term with everyone knowing the future date of an election thus eliminating gerrymandering by any party and also if people remember when their was speculation about the last time an election was "predicted" the amount of instability that caused, i.e in markets and MPS instead of doing their jobs being more interested in campaigning. Please remember mps from all sides where campaigning while receiving tax payers money to represent their constituencies. If the term is fixed and the date is fixed before hand mps would have to do the job they are paid for

Voting Question: The changing role of the Labour backbencher:?
are they more constituency-based or parliament-based, or a mixture of both?
I have a example from John Mcdonnell who is one of the most rebellious MPs of the New Labour Government. He is currently campaigning against the third run way in Heathrow which would severely effect his constituency.
What do you guys think about the changing role of the Labour backbencher, are they more constituency-based or parliament-based, or a mixture of both?

Resolved Question: What do you think about this comment from the Libertarian Party about Damian Green's arrest?
Following the press release by David Normington who admits it was he who set off the Police investigation into leaks at the Home Office, we now have some more timings to provide a little more detail.
We already know that Boris Johnson was informed prior to the arrest of Green, as was David Cameron.
David Normington states that he was informed at 1.45, a full 15 minutes before the arrest took place.
So the question is, Jacqui Smith and Gordon Brown, even if they did not order the arrest, or give permission for it, did they know prior to the arrest taking place? If they knew, why did they not stop it?
As it was the Sergeant at Arms, who reports to the Speaker, gave his permission for Damian Green's House of Commons office to be searched, thereby allowing the invasion of Parliament by civilian police, was the Speaker, Michael Martin informed?
If, as we believe, some or all of the above 3 were most likely to have been informed prior to Damian Green's arrest, should any or all of them stepped in to refuse to allow the police to search a parliamentary office, or was it they who ordered it.
Robert Quick (allegedly Jacqui Smith's favourite copper), the head of the Met's anti-terrorist unit, sent nine of his officers to arrest the Tory MP. According to the Daily Mail, a senior Scotland Yard source said Mr Quick, also known as 'Crackers', was regarded as 'clever but boring', an uncharismatic character whose personality did not lend itself to hot-headed misjudgments.
The source added: 'He's a follower not a leader.'
I ask as now we have a situation whereby there is scant information with regard to any documents retrieved from that office, and it raises the question of constituent / MP confidentiality.
Were any documents removed or copied by police? YES, was any IT equipment removed or its contents copied? YES, were the Police supervised by the Parliament's Sergeant at Arms to ensure Police acted in a proper manner? UNKNOWN, was there a breach of confidentiality with the police being in an MP's office and examining confidential documentation, YES.
I believe that no-one including MP's should be above the law, but it must be applied to all, not just singular cases, but then I also believe that in this case, it not a question of law, but of intimidation by an authoritarian government, out to make political capital and mischief, with an ulterior motive.
The Libertarian Party tried to give all MP's a warning by organising the sending of a copy of 1984 for each and every one of them. We only hope that Damian Green's arrest, and the subsequent search of his home, constituency office and his parliamentary office serve as a further warning to all MP's that the laws created by Brown and his predecessor are now being visited upon them, that the Police state that they have helped to create is indeed very real. But of course, if they have nothing to hide, then they have nothing to fear, eh.
If the law is to be applied equally to all, then the laws applied to Damian Green must be applied to all cases of a similar nature. Perhaps the police would like to begin with Danny Finkelstein's dossier. Will Brown agree or will he claim that these laws clearly do not apply to him, for the same offence that can be seen in this video clip.
But then perhaps that is what this arrest and very public media driven debate is all about, putting MP's above the law, or certainly Labour ones. When Harriet Harman spoke out today as reported by Sky News, there is a piece of what she said that has suddenly taken on the whole reason for this ploy in the first place.

Resolved Question: Can anyone tell me the different election processes for 2 levels of government in the UK? ?
I know that Local Government election processes are called Constituency representative elections.
Any idea for one more except general election, (FPTP), such as county councils, house of lords, house of parliament etc.
Many thanks.

Resolved Question: Are electors real people with a function?
I am a bit confused about the role of the electors. You see, in Britain, we get a result for a constituency (like a precinct or county in the US), and each individual result creates a member of parliament, and whichever party gets the most MPs wins. The leader of that party becomes Prime Minister.
So, for example, the 55 votes from California - are each of these tagged to a person who then has some role in political life?
Sorry if this is confusing...I'm not wording it very well.
I understand the difference between the popular vote and electoral college vote. I just don't really understand whether after the election, the electors continue to have some political role. Are they just party faithful, selected in each state, who then issue their vote on 15th December, and then return to normal life, or do they continue to have some importance?

Resolved Question: Is it worth voting anymore ?
Years ago, a constituency elected someone to represent them in parliament. Now when you elect someone, his main allegiance is to a party ( Labour or Tory ). If his entire constituency wanted something that went against party policy he couldn't or wouldn't go for it. So why bother. Lets face it, if they truly represented us we would not be in Europe, there would be no immigration problem and criminals would be locked up.
