Aladdin: Special Edition Soundtrack

Sandwiched amidst the remarkable string of renascent Disney animation successes that spanned
The Little Mermaid and
The Lion King, the studio's 1992 adaptation of the venerable Arabian tale won a pair of Oscars for Alan Menken's vibrant instrumental score and his memorable collaboration with lyricist Tim Rice, the infectious song "A Whole New World." This new edition does more than showcase those enduring musical charms, fleshing out the original 21 tracks of songs, underscore and antics of Robin Williams' manic genie with rare demo recordings of a pair of songs that were deleted from the film before its original theatrical release. The wistful yearning of "Proud of Your Boy" and the rambunctious "High Adventure" (both performed by Menken, the latter in a duet with lyricist Howard Ashman) also pay bittersweet homage to original project lyricist Ashman, Menken's Academy Award-winning partner on
Little Mermaid and
Beauty and the Beast.

My Favorite Broadway - The Leading Ladies

A live concert at Carnegie Hall filmed in September 1998,
My Favorite Broadway: The Leading Ladies gathers a glittering lineup of Broadway's best, past and present. Some marquee names such as Bernadette Peters, Patti LuPone, and Betty Buckley are conspicuously missing, and Julie Andrews hosts but does not sing, but it still has Liza and stars aplenty from the '90s (Bebe Neuwirth, Faith Prince) as well as the '70s and '80s (Elaine Stritch, Jennifer Holliday, Nell Carter). The older stars sing songs from landmark original roles, while the '90s stars tend to sing either songs they've performed in revivals or songs from older shows--curiously, modern headliners such as Audra McDonald and Linda Eder sing older material rather than the contemporary shows (
Ragtime,
Jekyll & Hyde, respectively, among others) with which they are strongly associated.
A number of these performances might be slightly inferior to those on the original recordings, but there are a number of gems, and the star power of the whole lineup is undeniable. In addition, even though only a few numbers provide action to watch, video is a valuable format for this concert because it gives faces to stars who most viewers outside of New York might recognize only by name or still photographs, and also allows fans to catch up with yesterday's stars. (Those who were dazzled by Andrea McArdle's cameo in the 1999 TV remake of her original star-making vehicle, Annie, will love her sweet, understated performance here.) Furthermore, the 99-minute video program provides more footage than the PBS telecast (85 minutes) or the CD release (61 minutes). This is highly recommended for Broadway fans. --David Horiuchi

Mulan (Special Edition)

Solid entertainment from a new group of Disney animators. The story source is a Chinese fable about a young girl who disguises herself as a man to help her family and her country. When the Huns attack China, a call to arms goes out to every village, and Mulan's father, being the only man in the family, accepts the call. Mulan (voiced by Ming-Na Wen, sung by Lea Salonga) has just made a disastrous appearance at the Matchmaker and decides to challenge society's expectations (being a bride). She steals her father's conscription notice, cuts her hair, and impersonates a man to join the army. She goes to boot camp, learning to fit in with the other soldiers with some help from her sidekick, Mushu, a wise-cracking dragon (voiced by Eddie Murphy). She trains, and soon faces the Huns eye-to-eye to protect her Emperor.
The film is gorgeous to look at, with a superior blend of classic and computer-generated animation. Directors Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook make the best of it: a battle in the snowy mountains is as thrilling as the best Hollywood action films. The menacing Huns are not cute but simple and bad. The wickedness is subtle, not disturbing. The film is not a full-fledged musical, as it has only five songs (the best, "Be a Man," is sung during boot camp). Eddie Murphy is an inspired choice for the comic-relief dragon, but his lines are not as clever as Robin Williams's in Aladdin. These are minor quibbles, though. The story is strong, and Mulan goes right to the top of Disney animated heroines; she has the right stuff. --Doug Thomas

Aladdin (Disney Special Platinum Edition)

Disney's 1992 animated feature is a triumph of wit and skill. The high-tech artwork and graphics look great, the characters are strong, the familiar story is nicely augmented with an interesting villain (Jafar, voiced by Jonathan Freeman), and there's an incredible hook atop the whole thing: Robin Williams's frantically hilarious vocal performance as Aladdin's genie. Even if one isn't particularly moved by the love story between the title character (Scott Weinger) and his girlfriend Jasmine (Linda Larkin), you can easily get lost in Williams's improvisational energy and the equally entertaining performances of Freeman and Gilbert Gottfried (as Jafar's parrot).

I am going to judge whether i really am that good, by creating my ideal WM 25. Bear in mind that this DOESN'T take into account any current storylines or angles being used by WWE, or who is the current champions.

Voting Question: was there new episodes of the x files thi syear on fox?
20 photos`The truth is out there,' and FBI agents Scully and Mulder seek it in this sci-fi phenomenon about their quest to explain the seemingly unexplainable. Their strange cases include UFO sightings, alien abductions and just about anything else paranormal. The tales were spooky and well-written, but the long-running cult favorite's strength was a gallery of intriguing (when they weren't just enigmatic) characters, and the dynamic---and intense bond---between believer Mulder and skeptic Scully.
Fox: On the Fringe of a Breakout Hit? | Roush Dispatch | 7/14/2008
After a season rocked by a writers? strike, shortened episode orders and a defecting audience, all eyes are turning to the new fall season and the hope of maybe a new hit or two reigniting the business.?I?d hope that this fall is a reset,? says Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly, kicking off his network?s portion of the TCA press tour Monday (following a performance and panel from summer smash So You Think You Can Dance; Reilly, for the record, stayed in his seat). ?I believe in my heart it can be, particularly if there is a couple of new exciting shows joining the lineup or maybe some of the returning shows continue to find an audience.?Fox?s greatest hope this fall is unquestionably J.J. Abrams? big-budget, high-concept sci-fi thriller Fringe, which Reilly and boss Peter Ligouri aggressively pursued. ?We offered him a series day one. We knew the log line, that it was sort of The X-Files, Indiana Jones kind of thing. This... read more

X-Files Vet Casts Spell on Wizard's | Today's News: Our Take | 4/15/2008
Sam Raimi (Spiderman) and Rob Tapert (The Grudge) have snagged former X-Files scribe John Shiban to exec-produce their new syndicated project, Wizard's First Rule. Shiban, who is now with the CW's Supernatural, will help adapt Terry Goodkind's series of books into a weekly TV series. Wizard's is set in a fantasy world of magic (and wizards, of course) and focuses on the Seeker, a man destined to save the world.Shiban tells Variety that much like The X-Files, "There's an overarching mythology to the series, but the job of Seeker allows him to fight evil in self-contained episodes."After spending seven years on The X Files and co-creating the short-lived spinoff, The Lone Gunmen, Shiban looks forward to making the syndie Wizard's strive for network-quality special effects and tone. "We're going to make it look huge," he said.Wizard's has been cleared for broadcast in 84 percent of the country and all top 50 markets. Nerds everywhere, rejoice! ?Erin Fox read more

X-Files at Paley: Your Burning Questions Answered, and Much More! | Movie News | 3/28/2008
"X-Philes" lined up several hours early at the Arclight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood to snag the best seats for the Paley Television Festival's retrospective of Fox's hit show. I teamed up with Lisa Angelo from X Files News to snag some awesome pictures (scroll down to see the shots) of the cast and crew, and to make sure we could answer as many of the fans' burning questions as possible. True to form, Chris Carter and company kept the film's highly anticipated plotline to themselves. However, they did show the new movie trailer (not once, but twice) to excited fans. Let's break the evening down:Who was there: Rather, who was missing!? David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson did not attend the event (boo). But to the delight of many fans, Mitch Pileggi (aka Walter Skinner), Nicholas Lea (Alex Krycek) and Dean Haglund (Langly) were present and very happy to be there. Several writers and producers also joined the panel, including series creator

Resolved Question: can I take the local education authority to court for ignoring evidence of a childs disability?
My local LEA have decided not to assess my autistic triplet boys for statement of statutory edncational needs. The LEA's own educational psychologist, the boys school and outreach all state in their opinion the children should be assessed and given statements but the LEA have refused, instead they are making us go to appeal which could cost upwards of £5000 per child. Thats £15K obviously theLEA know I cant afford that and probably wont appeal. Can I take the LEA to high court for failing to provide adequate education to my children who clearly can not access the curriculum in mainstream school? I want to take if possible the head of Special educational needs to court so that if I win that individual would potentially lose his mortgage or whatever and that way other LEA's will stop this sysem of saving money at the cost of disabled children and their education.

Resolved Question: A poem about the Forest of Dean. Is it a good poem?
(I feel as though I've joined some club
My last question was deleted!
No longer am I isolated.
And like others I won't be defeated.
I've joined a very special band
The creme de la creme of poetry-land
Here's my deleted poem repeated)
A Snapshot of the Forest of Dean
Summer is hiding from our view
Above the dull-grey of the sky.
Its warmth and light and varied hues
Teasingly masked
Then, just occasionally, breaking through.
Underfoot spongey grass
Sucks greedily at our wellington boots,
And soddened ferns soak trousered legs
(Satiated and
water-drunk to their roots).
Scruffy-dog disappears into the knee-high ferns
In search of what? No-one knows.
A rat, a squirrel, a trembling shrew?
Whatever - he, swiftly barking, soon returns.
We turn into the hedge-edged lane,
As it rambles carelessly down hill
Following the ancient rural tracks
Winding slowly down the lea.
The River Severn is swollen
by the incessant, torrential rain
Its submerged banks spilling water
like silver coverlets over the plain
This distant view expects you
To stop, admire and gasp,
And we obediently pause
And do as we are asked.
Hedgerows are abundantly ladened
With fruits of every kind.
Damsons, elderberries and sloes
On bush and tree and vine.
The luscious, succulent blackberry
King of Fruit who reigns over all
Has the rural history of England
In its grasp and in its thrall.
Reluctantly, we turn for home
The threatened rain has begun to fall,
And we scurry before the storm breaks....
Hot chocolate and fireside call.

Resolved Question: Help me find the right Camera?
I'm taking a digital photography class and the cameras we need to get have certain requirements. I have only used point-and-shoot digital cameras that are nothing special and so I have no idea how to find the right camera. The Requirements are:
-Manual control- this should be easy to spot right? Won't it say that it has manual control in the description or on the dial set?
-At leas four full traditional f stops- I get that the f stop is the aperture, which is something about the lens opening and the amount of light getting in. But how do you check a camera for this? And what about the aperture range, if it looks like this "f/2.8 (W) - f/4.3 (T)" what does that mean?
Please help me out, If you could direct me to some cameras that I could use I would really appreciate it.
