Open Question: please will someone edit this feature story?
It is suppose to bea feature story so can you do anything to improve it. According to Marina Johnson an English teacher at White Union in Burlington, Vermont she caught two students cheating last year on two occasions. Johnson also said she caught six people cheating last year. One senior at White Union said he has never been caught cheating, but has come close several times. According to the student he has several techniques he uses to cheat. The Work- The student sits at home next to his computer. He grabs a empty 16oz Coca Cola Bottle and rips off the plastic label. He takes the red label and scans it onto his computer screen. The student sees the red Coca Cola label pop up on the screen, and quickly moves the mouse over to the nutrition facts. He erases the protein, vitamins, and calories. He then inserts the french test answers to the facts. Breathing heavy the student than prints out the new Coca Cola label and glues it on the empty coke bottle. Test Day- That Tuesday the student fills the empty coke bottle full of water. He then hears the bell ring and sits down in his seat two rows back from Mrs. Willey. Mrs. Willey passes out the test, but little does she know that the test she passes out every year most of the student have. As the student gets his test he can feel knots in his stomach, and feels the sweat pouring down his body. As he listens to the tape he hears numbers adding together, he looks around the room and his friends are doing the test legit. He just looks at his coke bottle and writes down cinq(five) for he got all the right answers. As he flies through the rest of the test he begins to have second thoughts about what he did, but continues to sit still. Aftermath- As the test ends the student talks to his friends about the test. Some kids say it is easy, some say it is hard, but he just stands there smiling cause he knows what grade he already got. He eventually tells some of his friends how he did it and shows them step by step how he did it and didn't get caught. As for some other students cheating doesn't consume so much time. As for one junior at Hazen Union, ?I just take the notes I have in that class and stick them under the clear part of my binder so I can look directly at them during a test.? The student proves he does just that as on one Friday during a Simms math test the teacher hands out the math test. The student sits there likes nothings wrong, until he gets the test he quickly takes the notes he has been working on that unit and shove them on top of his math book so the clear front is against his paper. He whispers, ? I'm going to ace this one? to his buddy next to him like we all didn't hear it. The student then begins his test quickly glancing from his test to his binder just to make sure it is right. As thirty minutes go by the student is almost done his test, until the teacher walks right by him. He then said, ?That was a close one.? As he finishes the test he pushes his binder in a little so he can get a good look at the notes to make sure his work is right. He then hands the test to the teacher and throws the notes to the back of the binder like nothing happened. According to the high school senior using the coke bottle cheat has been a great success for him, but he is trying to think of new ways of cheating, because there is always a chance, ?Of getting caught.? Resolved Question: Do you stop to "smell the roses" in your daily life?
I know this doesn't have much to do with GWS... or does it?... This story impressed me and and I wanted to share it with you. A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated that thousand of people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. Three minutes went by and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried up to meet his schedule. A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk. A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work. The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on. In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition. No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars. Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston and the seats average $100. This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of an social experiment about perception, taste and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected context? One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing? --- So, the question I guess then becomes: do you stop to see the beauty in everyone in GWS? Or do you just discount everything he/she says because your previous disagreements? And... here's the clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myq8upzJDJc (more...)

Voting Question: Constructive Criticism? ?
The general idea is bored kids in a small town, they run away, looking for adventure. I've been working on this one for awhile, and this is just the very begining. What do you think? There probably are a few gramatical errors, so feel free to point them out. Thanks for looking(: I had been fourteen at the time, and it wasn?t really something that I had planned. At first, December 13th had been just another day. I?d woken up at 6:00, gotten ready, and walked the three blocks from my house to school. It was a tall, rust-colored, brick building that stood between the part of town that was suburban and the part that was the city. Fox Creek Senior high school was the only one in town, but unfortunately, nothing interesting ever happened there. Everyone just went about their business most times, not really caring about anyone else. I walked up the concrete steps and spotted Tucker standing by the front doors. ?Hey,? he said, ?Where were you last night?? ?My mom said she wanted to have a ?family dinner? and that I couldn?t go out, sorry bro,? ?Soph, you missed out.? ?Ha, what did you guys blow up?? ?We did nothing of the sort. But we did find this pretty cool tree house in the woods.? Right then, Jake walked in the front gates and started strutting towards us. ?Sophie! We missed you yesterday,? he shouted across the schoolyard, ?Did Tuck tell you about the fort we found?? He said as he got closer. ?Why are you guys getting all excited over a stupid tree house?? I asked critically. ?Well, it?s pretty much the coolest tree house ever.? Jake said, an air of defense in his voice. I had known these guys almost all my life, and they had always been there for me. Whenever I hang out with them though, I don?t really consider them anything more then my best friends, but I?m not sure if the feeling is mutual. Once, when we were all six, Tucker had tried to kiss me. I?d slapped him, but Jake got pretty jealous. I guess they?re both pretty good looking. Tucker has chocolate colored hair and dark eyes. Jake is tall with dirty blonde hair, and amazing green eyes that you could stare into for hours. I mean, I could just sit there and gaze into them, like I was looking into a magic pool or something. Anyways, there were a couple of times over the years where I was closer to one of them then I was to the other, but overall, I loved them both equally ?Sophie,? Tucker said, ?You have to see it befor you diss it. It's like, the most awesome thing ever.? ?Just chill, I?ll meet up with you guys at the front gate after school, alright?? ?Alright,? They said simultaneously The first bell boomed and kids began to scatter. ?See you later,? I called to them as I walked towards homeroom. ?Later Soph,? Tucker called ?Later!? Jake shouted, walking backwards. He tripped over a loose slab of concrete, falling on his butt, and Tucker burst out laughing. I smiled to myself, and continued walking towards my class. The first sentance is kind of messed up, When i first wrote it, I wanted to think up a really good hook, but i never got to it. Thanks guys, and I'll work on it (more...)

Resolved Question: What are the charges for this crime? (PLEASE ANSWER!!)?
What are the charges for this crime? Read this article Metro Police Gang Unit capped the most prolific year in its history by making a series of narcotics trafficking arrests of members from the Crazy White Boys gang. Six members and associates of the Crazy White Boys gang were arrested last week on drug distribution charges for selling close to 2,000 homemade ecstasy pills and painkillers to undercover Gang Unit detectives. Arrested as a result of the four-month investigation were Joseph ?Swap Shop Joe? Tarre, the alleged leader of the gang, and five other individuals. Also arrested were Tarre?s girlfriend Kellie Applegate, Crazy White Boys members Robert Dailey, Jonathan Bell and Samuel Lusty in addition to Lusty?s girlfriend Amanda Fitih. Tarre delivered homemade ecstasy pills in quantities up to 500 on four occasions to the undercover detective, police said. According to Detective Gerry Hyder, this was the first bust of Crazy White Boys members since the Gang Unit was formed in 2004. Hyder said Crazy White Boys were attached to the street hip hop culture and often used the money earned selling drugs to make music. Swap Shop Joe was a back-up singer for local rapper Haystak, according to Hyder, and had gone on tour with him in the past. ?With anything, you need money to make music, you need money to lay down tracks,? said Hyder, who added that although the Gang Unit was aware of Crazy White Boys, they weren?t suspected of any more violent or gun-related crimes. ?A lot of these guys are very smart guys, especially Joe, he?s a smart, business-minded guy. He?s sang on a lot of albums.? According to police, Crazy White Boys are not a white supremacist group and in fact have some black members in their ranks as well. Hyder said the investigation showed there were two local chapters of the Crazy White Boys. There was the Straight Pits, led by Tarre, and the I4NI group. Lusty was a member of the latter group and was charged with selling more than 400 painkillers to detectives. ?This investigation shows that gang activity in Nashville transcends race, gender and age groups,? Metro Police Chief Ronal Serpas said. ?Our Gang Unit is doing an excellent job behind the scenes monitoring and investigating gang activity in a number of different areas across Davidson County.? The statistics back up Serpas?s praise. After having their unit doubled in size in 2007 to 12 detectives and two sergeants, the Gang Unit had a record number of arrests (2,359), felony arrests (321) and gun seizures (136). Hyder said he hoped the Crazy White Boys arrests would earn attention for the fact that suspected drug dealers would no longer be on the streets of Nashville, especially the Hermitage area where Tarre?s group operated. ?I think this should be a case that gets a lot of interest, not because they?re white, but because we have people that were involved in drug activity off the streets,? Hyder said. ?We have people that were involved with manufacturing ecstasy pills in a residential area that are not doing that any more.? How Long do you think this "Joseph Tarre" guy will be in jail?? And any idea of how much bail would be?? (more...)

I have a Packard Bell MV35-202 lap top which runs Windows XP. I protect it with the default Windows firewall. AVG 8. Spybot Search and Destroy, and Malwarebytes. I've used this combination for three years now, and up until now I've never had a virus. My neighbour has been using my computer over the last few days, and he seems to have got it infected with something. He's deleted the temporary internet files, so I can't see what he's been looking at, but he's very religious, so I doubt it's any obvious danger sites like porn or anything. The problem is something keeps turning off my windows firewall. I keep turning it back on setting it to allow no exceptions, but after a while it keeps turning off again. This has happened five or six times since the day before yesterday. Also AVG8's resident shield keeps popping up telling me it's removed something called Trojan Horse Clicker, again five or six times in the last couple of days. I've updated and scanned with AVG8. Spybot Search and Destroy. Malwarebytes, Windows malicious software removal tool, and the online scanner Cure It Dr Web. None of them find anything. Not even AVG8 despite the fact that it's resident shield keeps removing this Clicker thing. Anyone got any idea how I can sort this out? I'm not a computer genius, so I'd appreciate any advice given, to be in laymans language. All help will be greatly appreciated. (more...)
