Resolved Question: Which place destroys your soul?
Someone says to you, "Right, get in the car we are going to......" which place at the end of that sentence would break your heart, drain the colour from your face and make you want to stop living?
For me it's Blaenau Ffestiniog in Wales A small town in the middle of an open slate quarry. it is all grey and soul destroying, and I actually try to kill myself if I ever go through it when it's raining and dark.

*The journey from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog is 65 mins (inc. stops at intermediate stations. These stops are very short and may be neglected in timetabling)
*The first train of the day will leave Porthmadog at 9am
*The last train must return to Porthmadog by 5pm
Draw a distance time graph for the 9am train leaving Porthmadog.
Try to show accurately:
-the outward journey from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog
-the waiting time at Blaenau Ffestiniog
-the return journey from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog
-the waiting time at Porthmadog?and son on
What is the interval between departure times from Porthmadog for the above train?
How can we space the two other trains regularly between these departure times?
Draw similar graphs for the ther two trains
How many passing places are needed? Where will these have to be?

Resolved Question: How the hell are you supposed to solve this problem out?
The Ffestiniog railway is one of the most famous in Wales. Your task will be to devise a workable timetable for running this line during the peak tourist season.
The following facts need to be taken into account:
*There are 6 main stations along 13 and a half mile track
*The Three steam trains will operate a shuttle service. This means that they will travel back and forth along the line from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog with a 10-minute stop at each end. (This should provide enough time for drivers to change e.t.c.)
*The three trains must start and finish each day at Porth.
*The line is single track meaning hatt trains cannot pass each other, except at specially designed passing places. (You will need to say where these will be needed. Try to use as few passing places as possible)
*The trains should depart from stations at regular intervals if possible

Resolved Question: Help me with this scenario?
It is 11 October 2006. You are Edith Jones. You are working on a project to allocate up to £5,000 to one of three causes to benefit from funds available from the Welsh Lottery Board. Your manager, Fred Thurnham, has given you three application forms from which you have been asked to select the one that best fits the criteria for the funding in order to put it through to the next round. Fred has given you 45 minutes to analyse the forms and award the money to the scheme that fulfils most or all of the conditions. Note that some of the conditions are essential, and some are preferable.
The applicants must contribute at least 25% in cash to the cost of the project, and 5% of the total must be from their own resources. Priority will be given
a) to organisations which do not stand to make a profit, but all should receive some kind of funding from a partnership or sponsor
and b) to organisations standing to benefit the under 21 age group. The projects should have the broad aim of conserving or advancing heritage or promote minorities in the local community, encouraging the local population to understand more about their local environment and involve as many of them as possible. The projects can be funded only up to 31 December 2007 and the organisation must not have received funds from the lottery within the last five years. Certain regions have not been funded for the last four years and should be given priority where possible: these are Blaenau Gwent, Newcastle Emlyn, Llandrindod Wells, Neath, Llandeilo and Wrexham. These priority locations are confidential and not for disclosure to candidates. Fred has sent you an email to look at before you start.
You need to write a brief summary for your manager. This should contain:
a) Clear details of how the candidate you have selected meets the criteria.
Then
b) Two brief summaries to be given to the failed candidates showing each of the reasons why they weren?t selected.
